Show Review: 516

I have been seeing Social D for nearly 20 years now and what can I say? They get better with age. It was Saturday night in Atlantic City, with a Nor’easter blowing outside, but that didn’t dampen anyone’s enthusiasm. It seems that Mike Ness has matured to the age where the old dog knows he doesn’t have to show off new tricks to impress the crowd. He just came out with the band and they all put on one hell of a show. That was it. No surprises, nothing new to report. The show was worth the 200 mile round trip, but truthfully I am looking forward to seeing the show that almost was — Social D changing things up, slowing things down or reworking the old classics (like the Stones have been doing). They looked like they were about to do this when they played a new song, but they didn’t go too far. There was no piano enthused "Prison Bound" or hard charging "Maybellene," just 90 minutes of muic you can take for granted. Well worth the trip, but I am waiting to see where they go next.
