Flew out to NYC from SoCal. Took the train up to Poughkeepsie. Spent a good day in Poughkeepsie (who would have thought that?). Asked the guy at the front desk of the motel how to get to the Chance. He asked, “you’re going to the punk rock show?” The Chance is small & packed. Social D should be playing bigger, but I’m not going to complain if no one else knows. Ridiculously hot & humid in New York. The only place to stand was near the bar in front of the air conditioning…and, standing next to the bar with Social D with Socia D playing is where I want to be. I stood next to a huge New Yorker for Queens who kept yelling, “Hey Mikey!” Great f’n time! Show ends with Prison Bound, Nickels & Dimes, Story of My Life, and Ring of Fire. They played “Still Alive” also. My buddy got the set list from the sound guy. Looking forward to the new album and Social D back in Socal in December! |

I thought the crowd was great, but it definetly had first night sloppy feel to it. They sounded great, but it seemed to me that Mike’s enthusiasm wasn’t quite up to his normal standards. Only the second time I have seen them, but I don’t think they were at their best. Maybe it had something to do with the venue, which was a dump. It was very small- at times it almost seemed as if the security guys were part of the band, it was so tight. Mike spent a lot of time complaining (off mic) about the sound. There seemed to be a lot of down time in between songs, which took away some momentum. Mike talked alot in between songs which made it seem like he just wasn’t totally into it. The setlist contained only one new song— all along Mike has been saying how he cant wait to play the new stuff—- then where the hell is it? David was fine…but man, do I miss Charlie. When I saw them last October, it was a solid two hour show, plus we got Bakersfield, Still Alive and Can’t Take it With You. So I was disappointed with the setlist. When they went off after only an hour, I actually thought it was due to technical issues, not that the main set was already over. That being said, they are still the most underrated rock band out there, and I had a great time. Mike is the man. Met the band outside, and they could not have been nicer or more accomodating. Can’t wait for new album. PS: What happened to “Pain, Death and Love’s Lost Cause”? Was that just a BS rumor? |

Just good, in your face Social D. I wished you had played another two hours or so. Action Design was good, Dan Sartain not so good. |

Not often do I bring my wife to a potential powder-keg of a show but when So-D comes to town, we represent. We really do…my dear old Grand-ma Lucille had just passed this weekend and we buried her on Monday but come Tuesday, it was time to celebrate her life and enjoy great music just like she loved to do. So I put the word out and my little bro Scotty Pots, my adopted Sasquatch Doof McGuinness, and brother-in-law Mike Riley drove up from the Bronx to join me, my lady Dawn Marie and my amigo Kyle Myer to one hell of a night. Pre-game at my house, beers in the parking lot, tequila in the Loft…it’s all what lead up to us initiating a pit and hangin’ front n’ center till Ness and the boys packed it in. The band sounded awesome as expected, played a great set and made me feel 20 years old again….until Wednesday morning!!! SKELLY!!!!!!! |

This show was AMAZING!! ( but so is every Social D show..) First time being to The Chance… different but very cool. The opening bands were great. I would have looooved if Social D played like another hour because I wanted to hear more new songs and i missed hearing some of my favorites like Angels Wings and Making Believe but perhaps next show in Clifton Park :) Thanks guys for a great time!! |
