Show Review: 585

I think the last time Social Distortion played Portland Maine was 1991, opening with Sonic Youth for Neil Young. I enjoyed their set then, but this many years later in one of my favorite New England venues (State Theater), tonight’s show was one not to be missed. If you weren’t there, all I can say is you missed out on a great time. I’ve seen Mike and crew several times the past year, and the Portland set was different from just a couple months ago at the Hampton Casino. I can’t say I remember the set list exactly but they opened with Creeps (I just want to give you…) and blasted through a selection covering most of their 30 year history, with two or three from the upcoming album. In some ways this reminded me of an S.D. show years ago at T.T. The Bear’s in Boston. Perhaps the finest moments were during the encore set, featuring a great Hank Williams song (sorry I don’t remember the name) and a bluesy rendition of Cold Feelings. It was a great night! Looking forward to the new album!
